​Mothers who give birth in a hospital will receive a phone call from a public health nurse within 24-48 hours after discharge from hospital. Birthing parents who receive care from a midwife will receive care in the first few days from their midwife and will be contacted by a Public Health Nurse within six to eight weeks. Patients referred through this process will be contacted by a Public Health Nurse (PHN) who may provide direct nursing services or refer on to appropriate community resources. We ask that you have a discussion with the client or parent/guardian prior to making a referral.
In the Prenatal & Early Years Program, Public Health Nurses provide nursing services to answer questions about birthing parent, baby, or family health and provide access to public health services including:
